BENITO JUAREZ AND ABRAHAM LINCOLN
In these pasts years when the relationship between the The United States and Mexico have been very complicated, I want to mention that it has not always been like this.
Benito Juarez and Abraham Lincoln were both peacemakers, and they strove for the liberty of the Americas. Both men had a lot of similarities in their lives,
they were born and grew up in poverty and have always been admired because of their personality, honesty, and integrity, they never took advantage of their position, always humble and hard-working.
As Presidents, they had firm principles based on ethics. Lincoln opposed the war declared by the United States in 1846 when Mexico lost half of its territory, he criticized the war declared by James Polk. When he said that American blood was spilled in American territory, Lincoln said, “show me the place
where American blood was spilled”
He also was against the French invasion and the empire imposed by France. He understood that the most important relationship was between his country and his Southern neighbor…Mexico.
Juarez, on his side, sent Matias Romero, first Mexican Ambassador to build up a good foreign relationship, even before Lincoln’s inauguration.
Juarez was a great statesman; he was the President to consolidate an independent and sovereign nation. Lincoln is for the United States a symbol of identity; for Mexico Juarez is the forger of the fatherland.
Juarez and Lincoln never met but were respectful friends at a distance, respecting each other in their similarities and their differences.
Both countries have been contributors to the culture, the economy, the history of each other. Nowadays, the world needs to learn to be good neighbors and
have mere tolerance and total respect for all countries. That is what would bring peace to the world. Lincoln and Juarez are an example for the world.

En estos últimos tiempos en que las relaciones entre los Estados Unidos y México han sido complicadas, quisiera hacer notar que no siempre ha sido así.
Benito Juárez y Abraham Lincoln fueron pacificadores, y lucharon por la libertad de las Américas. Ambos hombres tenían muchas similitudes en sus vidas.
Nacieron y crecieron en la pobreza, y siempre han sido admirados por su personalidad, honestidad e integridad, nunca tomaron ventaja de su posición, ambos eran humildes y muy trabajadores. Como presidentes tenían firmes principios morales, basados en la ética.
Lincoln se opuso a la guerra que Estados Unidos le declaro a México en 1946, cuando México perdió la mitad de su territorio, el criticó la guerra que James Polk declaró, cuando dijo que sangre americana había sido derramada en territorio americano. Lincoln dijo, “enséñeme en qué lugar sangre
americana fue derramada”. También estuvo en contra de la invasión francesa y del imperio impuesto por Francia. El entendió que la relación a cultivar más importante era entre su país y su vecino del sur…México.
Juárez por su lado, envió a Matías Romero, el primer Embajador Mexicano para lograr buenas relaciones exteriores, aun antes de que Lincoln tomara posesión de su puesto.
Juárez fue un gran estadista; él fue el Presidente que consolidó a México como una nación soberana e independiente. Lincoln es para los Estados Unidos un símbolo de identidad; Juárez es para México el forjador de la Patria.
Juárez y Lincoln nunca se conocieron, pero fueron respetuosos amigos a distancia, respetando cada uno sus similitudes y sus diferencias. Ambos países han contribuido con la cultura, economía, y la historia del otro. Hoy en día, el mundo necesita aprender a ser buenos vecinos y tener simple tolerancia y respeto total con todos los países.
Eso traería la paz al mundo.
Lincoln y Juárez fueron un ejemplo para el mundo.
