La Malinche
Who is La Malinche and why is it important to talk about her?
She was a Nahuatl woman, born in the actual State of Veracruz. She was probably born around the year 1500 in the town of Oluta near Coatzacoalcos, the capital of the Olmecs and near to the Mayan territory of Tabasco. After a war between the Mayas and the Mexicas, Malinche was sold to some slaves traffickers, all this happened when she was very young and afterwards was given as tribute to the Spaniards. Malinche was also known as Malinalli, Malintzin and Doña Marina.
She acquired a key roll in the conquest of Mexico – Tenochtitlan.
She was interpreter, advisor and intermediary of Hernán Cortez , years later she became his partner and mother to his first child Martin, who was considered as the first half-blood child from the conquest of Mexico. When she became Cortez’ partner, she was baptized and her name changed to Doña Marina, given to her because of the similarity of the phonetic sounds.
After the fall of Tenochtitlán and the birth of Martin, Cortes built her a house in Coyoacán, (Mexico City) where she stayed. As Doña Marina accompanied Cortez very closely during the first period of the conquest, she appears in all the codixes of the time.
The term “malinchista” (after her name) has been considered during 5 centuries, to be a traitor to the country, and according to the Royal Academy of Language it means to have “an attachment to everything foreign in disparagement of ones own”.
However the concept of the mytical figure of “ la Malinche” has been modified with time, according to the different historical criteria of each time, that has studied her.
Many have considered her the stereotype of treason, but many others have considered her a victim of the cultural clash of two worlds, there is also a 3rd group who considers her the symbolic mother of the miscegenation that arose as a result of the forced fusion of two races.
For many years Mexicans have had grudges against the Spanish, for the cruelty of the conquest, Three centuries of domination during which Mexico was looted of it’s wealth, the religion was forced by blood and fire, the cruelty of the Aztecs sacrifices was changed by the cruelty of the inquisition, many Mexicans have lived with resentment of all this.
In my opinion, the past is the past, we cannot live in the past, we have to consider that changes were necessary for those times.
THE UNION OF THE TWO RACES HAS GIVEN US OUR ORIGIN AS MEXICANS.
This is the importance of Malinche and her union with Hernan Cortes.
Nowadays many spaniards live here and their children have been born here and are now mexicans and proud of Mexico, we no longer live in the dark ages and we have to make peace, with that past and with ourselves, to be able to move forward.
There should be no more more resentment against La Malinche nor the Spaniards.

Quien es la Malinche? Y por qué es importante hablar de ella?
Era una mujer náhuatl, nacida en el Estado de Veracruz, probablemente alrededor del año 1500 en el pueblo de Oluta cerca de Coatzacoalcos, capital de los Olmecas y cerca del territorio maya de Tabasco. Después de una guerra entre los mayas y los mexicas, Malinche fue vendida a unos traficantes de esclavos, todo esto sucedió cuando era muy joven y después fue dada en tributo a los españoles. Malinche fue conocida como Malinalli, Malintzin, o Doña Marina.
Ella adquirió un rol clave en la conquista de México – Tenochtitlán. Ella fue interprete, asesora e intermediaria de Hernán Cortes. Años más tarde se convirtió en su pareja y madre de su primer Hijo Martín, quien fue considerado el primer mestizo de la Conquista.
Cuando se convirtió en la pareja de Cortez, fue bautizada y su nombre fue cambiado a Doña Marina, debido a la similitud fonética de los sonidos.
Después de la caída de Tenochtitlán y el nacimiento de Martín, Cortez le construyó una casa en Coyoacán, (Ciudad de México) Donde se quedó a vivir. Como Doña Marina acompañaba a Cortez muy de cerca, durante el periodo inicial de la conquista, ella aparece en muchos de los códices de la época.
El término “malinchista” que se deriva de su nombre, ha sido considerado durante 5 siglos, de ser Traidor de su país y de acuerdo a la Real Academia de la Lengua Española quiere decir “apego a todo lo extranjero en menosprecio de lo propio.“
Sin embargo el concepto de la mítica figura de “ la Malinche “ se ha modificado con el tiempo, de acuerdo a los criterios históricos de cada tiempo que la ha estudiado.
Muchos la han considerado el estereotipo de la traición, pero muchos otros la han considerado ser una víctima del choque de dos mundos, y hay un tercer grupo que la considera ser un símbolo de el mestizaje que surgió como resultado de la fusión forzada de dos razas.
Por muchos años los mexicanos han tenido resentimientos en contra de los españoles, por su crueldad durante la conquista, los tres siglos de dominación durante los cuales México fue saqueada, la religión que fue forzada por sangre y fuego, la crueldad de los sacrificios aztecas fue cambiada por la crueldad de la inquisición, muchos mexicanos han vivido con resentimientos por todo esto.
En mi opinión, el pasado es el pasado, no podemos vivir en el , tenemos que considerar que los cambios fueron necesarios para esos tiempos.
LA UNION DE LAS DOS RAZAS HA DADO EL ORIGEN DE LOS MEXICANOS.
Esta es la importancia de La Malinche y su unión con Hernán Cortes.
Hoy en día muchos españoles, viven aquí y sus hijos nacieron aquí y ahora son mexicanos, orgullosos de México, ya no vivimos en los tiempos del obscurantismo, tenemos que hacer paz con el pasado y con nosotros mismos, para poder avanzar.
No debe de haber más resentimientos contra La Malinche ni los españoles.
